The second I get on social media and I’m flooded with faces that don’t move, dream vacations, impeccable style, large purchase hauls - the list goes on.
One child life over here as well! Also a pediatric SLP and I think that may have something to do with it because whoa doing this job and being a toddler mom can be a LOT. Fun, but a LOT.
I loved this post and found myself resonating with so much of what you wrote — one child, regular life, middle class normie, less than glamorous vacations (which I actually just wrote about!).
Yes to so many of these! Especially Bravo and a snack as a hobby, it’s my main one currently.
One thing I’ve tried to normalize is being okay with not continuing to advance past my current role at work. I’ve had some people try to nudge me into higher roles and I’m really content staying where I am. The salary bump would be so nice, but not at the cost to my time and mental health.
I love this SO MUCH, from the moving foreheads to the moving through shame (oh, to be a working mother...) to the bodies of all shapes and sizes. And I would like more info on special Bravo snacks please 😂
Yes yes yes! The thing is, I think a lot of these things are normalized (or becoming normalized) IRL, but everyone wants to put a show on for the internet and social media. In any case, it's always good to bring some reality to the digital world :)
This is so relatable, I loved it. What is a vacation and can I have one? Im trying to normalize asking for help now that I have it available. Admitting that raising kids can’t be done by yourself and you need a village has been humbling but also like taking a deep breath.
One kid is the very well accepted where I live (Chicago ... the city not the suburbs ). Over half of my kids' friends don't have sibs. I have 3 and it's embarrassing getting off the elevator in our building... it feels like a clown car. So many kids ahhh. Our neighbor has one and they take their only to Germany to watch his fav soccer team play for vacation . My kids... they go to the ymca camp with no ac in Michigan and come home with the stomach flu. I also love our only child friends.. they fit so well into our chaos. Their parents have so much more bandwidth and take my kids along for cool stuff they'd never get to do otherwise. And I provide the pseudo sibs. So super recommend. 5 stars. Only kids are the best.
Ok amiga! Everything you write I was like yep.. yep., let’s normalize all of it. A lot of us are in the same page as you. Let’s normalize one kid, it’s ok and I love it!! Let’s normalize bodies too. I have the same issues as you so we are at the same going through the same things. Love you amiga

We have so much in common :)
Yessss GIRL!!
Wow nice message Kate! I am with ya on Bravo, aging with grace, so fine I have sun damage spots all over, get over it TamTam!
Also, the pressure to be a certain way and have specific timelines - over it!

Protect your peace! Money is not worth the expense of your time or mental health <3

Thank you thank you! Sometimes a glass of wine, a pint of ice cream my son can’t see lol

Yes you are totally right! They are normal but don’t feel “normal” on social media.
Love this, love you! (Love having one child too) 😘
Thank youuuuuu - and yes to raising a kind, empathetic, and strong boy :)
Travel that isn't IG worthy!!!!!!!! YES!!!!!!!!!!!!
🙌🏼 yup because it ain’t always glamorous
I write this as I have Bravo on in the background. Celebrating all the non-productive hobbies out there oh and Summer House and In The City 😂
I just started watching summer house and in the city haha! Cheers 🤣
Breastfeeding a toddler is no joke. I am attempting to wean and the last nursing session is hard for me and him to drop.
Weaning has been so hard, best of luck 💙😭

That is so true! It really does take a village in raising kids. I need to be better about asking for help too.

Siblings are the best! I love mine and am so thankful for them. I was also a YMCA kid growing up 🙌🏼
Cheers to having one, none, of a bunch hahaha
